What the Alliance Means in Practice

In my experience, the most significant transactions in Maui luxury real estate rarely begin with a search on a real estate portal. They begin with a conversation between an advisor and a client, between people who already know what they are looking for and are simply waiting for the right property to surface through the right relationship.

The buyers who can acquire Maui's most significant properties — oceanfront estates, luxury homes in Kapalua, hillside compounds in Launiupoko, beachfront residences along Kaanapali — represent a relatively small, globally distributed community. Reaching them requires more than marketing. It requires relationships that exist before the search begins, with the networks that operate at the pace and discretion these transactions demand.

That is what the ILA provides. When a significant Maui property comes to market, my reach extends immediately to 77 members working exclusively with ultra-high-net-worth buyers across the markets most likely to produce a qualified Maui purchaser — San Francisco, Los Angeles, Seattle, New York, Boston, and markets across the Pacific Rim and Europe. In late March, the Alliance held its annual gathering in Boston. What made it particularly meaningful was the presence of Robert Reffkin, CEO and founder of Compass, and his wife Benis, Executive, Life & Leadership Coach, who stayed not only for a keynote appearance, but for all three days, personally engaged in the informal conversations that unfolded throughout.

That kind of presence changes the nature of an event like this. It invites a different quality of conversation — one that goes deeper than market reports and transaction volumes, into the thinking behind the decisions that define a practice at the highest level.

Networking

Over three days, we had the opportunity to connect, to share what is working in our respective markets, and to think together about how to better serve clients operating at this level. These are conversations that do not happen in a webinar or a trade publication. They happen when the right people are in the same room with enough time to actually talk — and enough trust to say what they have genuinely observed.

I came back from Boston with what I always come back with from these conferences: a deepened understanding of where qualified buyers are, what they are looking for, and how the relationships I have built within this network can serve the clients and properties I represent here in Maui.
