Fulfilling a Dream - The Story of a Person’s Journey to Maui
Born and raised in Boston, Massachusetts, Mary Anne's dad was a Bricklayer and her mom a homemaker. Later the two formed their own real estate company from which they retired in their early 70's. This was the foundation of Mary Anne's strong work ethic. She graduated from Boston College with a business degree and like traditional northeast people, started her professional career working for a Fortune 500 company - Digital Equipment Corporation.
After 10 years of career growth culminating in managing DEC's strategic major accounts, Mary Anne's desire to broaden her perspective led her to accepting an executive sales role with a software company in Los Angeles - the geographical location lent itself to getaways in Hawaii. During one of these trips, Mary Anne decided she'd had enough of the corporate rat race. She wanted to explore another world: waking up each day to breathtaking views, sunny days and a better quality of life.
Consistent with her ability to quickly recognize and act on an opportunity, Mary Anne took a 3-month sabbatical and moved to Maui. Her conservative upbringing rationalized that she would take this time to get this paradise desire "out of her system" and then return to California. She never made it back!
Having purchased her first home at age 23, real estate was a familiar business and a natural progression for her career. She has owned her own company (twice) and true to form, acted on many exciting, life and career - expanding opportunities during that time. View full resume on LinkedIn.
Professionally, her passion lies in establishing long term client relationships. Often her client's Real Estate needs change in different stages of their lives. It is natural that many of her clients become close friends. She recognizes the world is small and that Maui attracts a certain person. Mary Anne helps her clients make their best investment into the Maui lifestyle.
As Maui began to attract young families, Mary Anne recognized the need for a private grade school and college prep school. She and Nam, also an agent with Coldwell Banker Island Properties, are most proud of being original founding members of Maui Preparatory Academy located on West Maui, that has become a magnet for young families. Since the first 36 students enrolled at Maui Prep in September 2005, the school has grown into a world-class college preparatory academy with an enrollment of over 300 that embraces differences in culture, ethnicity, race, religion, and economics with strong academics, athletics, social values, and community commitment. Both Mary Anne and Nam continue to serve on Maui Prep's Foundation Board.
Mary Anne and Nam are also members of the Maui Health Foundation Hospital Hui, a group of donors who share a passion and commitment to having the highest quality life-saving healthcare on Maui. Mary Anne also serves on the Maui Leadership Council of Hawaii Community Foundation (HCF). They recently created an endowment with HCF benefiting Maui Preparatory Academy.
Mary Anne and Nam open their home and grand Bösendorfer piano, to musicians who support the arts on Maui. Partnering with Jazz Maui and Art Education for Children Group - a non-profit organization that provides afterschool programs for kids, the Le Viets have hosted numerous performers such as Arturo O'Farrill, a two times Afro-Cuban Jazz Grammy Award winner, Tommy James, Director of the Duke Ellington Orchestra, Ictus Band, Luis Romano Quartet and Mike Lewis. Occasionally, classical music professionals, even members of the San Francisco Symphony, will stop by to play for local music associations.
Partnership with Nam Le Viet
Mary Anne and her husband Nam Le Viet have been complementing one another's strengths for over 20 years. Until they discovered a shared love of Maui, Mary Anne Fitch and Nam Le Viet were living oddly parallel lives on opposite sides of the world, thousands of miles from their eventual home. Both were globe-trotting executives in the tech industry jobs that brought them in contact with a wide range of people and lifestyles. And now they are the reigning power couple of Maui real estate, having brought their management acumen and multicultural experience to Coldwell Banker Island Properties, focusing on homes valued from $2 million to $20+ million.
While many of Nam and Mary Anne's clients are shopping for second homes, they particularly enjoy working with those seeking to make Maui their full-time residence. "We come from an international, multicultural background," explains Mary Anne. "There's a huge social component to helping people join this community, and we’ve made it our business to share our experience."
After working in the tech world for many years, Nam Le Viet deeply understands the importance of technology in modern real estate world. His passion and appreciation for technology is always seen in how professionally and beautifully Mary Anne and Nam’s listings are represented on the internet to be viewed around the globe. A 1991 graduate of the Engineering School of the State of Vaud in Switzerland, Nam, a Swiss citizen, began his professional career working with Digital Equipment Corporation (DEC) in Lausanne and Geneva in a variety of roles including software support engineer, senior trainer and sales engineer. Nam’s professional responsibilities included the design, implementation and support of various network-oriented solutions for large multi-million dollar accounts including major Swiss banks, Michelin, Swisscom and Nestlé. In 1995, this multilingual professional who speak French, German, Italian and English, was among the top 5 Windows-based technology trainers in the French-speaking region of Switzerland. In 2000 Nam met Mary Anne in Lahaina, and in 2001 moved to San Francisco to design a security framework for a company that provided business process automation solutions for the insurance and financial services industries. By 2003, Maui became his full-time residence.
